چکیده

An Investigation was conducted to produce Aluminium based Functionally graded material (FGM) composites by Friction stir processing (FSP). A reinforcement strategy featuring the use of Alumina and TiC reinforcements investigated, where holes were drilled in an plate, filled with stirred using FSP. mathematical model formulated for positioning such a manner that composition varies from maximum minimum over given length. Samples subjected various number FSP passes one three 100% overlap its influence on particle distribution homogeneity studied Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) at cross sections parallel tool traverse direction. progressive gradient hardness values observed surface all passes.

Friction stir welding and processing

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a relatively new solid-state joining process. This joining technique is energy efficient, environment friendly, and versatile. In particular, it can be used to join high-strength aerospace aluminum alloys and other metallic alloys that are hard to weld by conventional fusion welding. FSW is considered to be the most significant development in metal joining in a de...

Controlling the length scale and distribution of the ductile phase in metallic glass composites through friction stir processing

We demonstrate the refinement and uniform distribution of the crystalline dendritic phase by friction stir processing (FSP) of titanium based in situ ductile-phase reinforced metallic glass composite. The average size of the dendrites was reduced by almost a factor of five (from 24 μm to 5 μm) for the highest tool rotational speed of 900 rpm. The large inter-connected dendrites become more frag...

Processing techniques for functionally graded materials

An overview of the achievements of the German priority program “Functionally Graded Materials (FGM)” in the field of processing techniques is given. Established powder processes and techniques involving metal melts are described, and recent developments in the field of graded polymer processing are considered. The importance of modeling of gradient formation, sintering and drying for the produc...

Friction Stir Processing of Aluminum Alloys: A Literature Survey

Many aluminum alloys with specific properties, like high strength, suffers from certain limitations in terms of cost and time of production, apart from the reduction in ductility. High strength accompanied by high ductility is possible with materials having fine and homogenous grain structures. Hence there arises a necessity to develop a processing technique that would produce a material with s...
